Job summary

Boots is seeking a proactive Multi‑Skilled Engineer in Nottingham to join our engineering team. The role focuses on Planned Preventative Maintenance, breakdown response and continuous improvement across automated logistics facilities, including cranes, lifts and conveyors.

You will work with a 7‑person team, prioritising tasks, maintaining high availability and collaborating with engineering and operations colleagues.

Qualifications

• Time-served apprenticeship with Level 3 in Electrical or Mechanical, plus Level 2 in the other discipline.
• Experience in electro-mechanical engineering.
• Familiarity with automation systems; exposure to risk assessments preferred.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office or similar tools.

Responsibilities

• Deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance and repairs on materials handling equipment.
• Self-manage tasks and prioritise to meet customer requirements.
• Collaborate with Engineering Management, Improvement Engineers and operations teams.
• Lead CI initiatives to improve equipment performance and warehouse efficiency.
• Uphold safety, regulatory compliance and housekeeping standards.
• Prepare accurate shift and breakdown reports for continuous improvement.

Shift Pattern: 3-2-2, 12-hour rotating days/nights (Panama shift pattern)

About The Role

We are looking for a proactive and highly skilled Multi‑Skilled Engineer to join our engineering team, providing essential Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), breakdown response, repair, and continuous improvement support to our Logistics Warehousing facilities. The role will involve working on a variety of automated systems, including pallet and tote box cranes, lifts, transfer cars, and conveyor networks, ensuring all equipment operates at optimal efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

As a Multi‑Skilled Engineer, you will be a key player in our 7-man team, providing engineering support across multiple interconnected automated logistics facilities. Your responsibilities will include:

• Planned Preventative Maintenance & Repairs: Ensuring all materials handling equipment and facilities are maintained, repaired, and continuously improved to meet availability expectations.
• Self‑Management: You will work largely unsupervised, prioritising tasks effectively and ensuring that customer requirements are met in an efficient, high‑quality manner.
• Collaboration: Work closely with the Engineering Management, Improvement Engineers, first-line fix managers, the Control Room, and Operational teams to maintain seamless operations.
• Continuous Improvement: Raise Continuous Improvement (CI) programs to enhance equipment performance and overall warehouse efficiency.
• Compliance & Safety: Upholding world‑class standards in security, health and safety, regulatory compliance, and housekeeping.
• Reporting: Ensure accurate shift/breakdown reports are completed, contributing to ongoing improvements in our engineering services.

What You'll Need To Have

• Qualifications: A time‑served apprenticeship with a minimum Level 3 qualification in either Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, along with at least a Level 2 qualification in the other.
• Experience: experience in a similar electro‑mechanical engineering field.
