Job summary

Michael Page (UK) is seeking a Multi Skilled Engineer for a biomass facility in Ince, Cheshire, near Chester. The role covers fault finding and maintenance of mechanical and electrical plant, with CMMS Maximo usage and input to project work and commissioning.

You will work Monday to Friday double days (06:00-14:00 and 14:00-22:00), liaise with external contractors, ensure HSE compliance, and contribute to keeping plant availability high.

Qualifications

• Apprenticeship or equivalent training scheme with relevant technical qualifications.
• Experience maintaining a wide range of mechanical systems including rotating equipment.
• Plant mobilisation and commissioning experience is desirable but not essential.
• Knowledge of conveyors, chain drives, hydraulics and pneumatics.
• Experience with Permit-to-Work systems and safe work practices.

Responsibilities

• Fault finding and maintenance of plant mechanical and electrical equipment.
• Liaise with external vendors and supervise repairs/maintenance.
• Assist in outages planning, scheduling and commissioning activities.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records using Maximo CMMS and ensure data integrity.
• Ensure adherence to HSE regulations and company safety rules.

About Our Client

Located in Ince, Cheshire, just outside of Chester, this biomass facility generates renewable electricity by processing waste wood that would otherwise be landfilled. It forms part of a circular economy approach, converting non-recyclable wood into low-carbon energy for homes and businesses. The site is also being developed as a potential bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) project, aiming to remove significant volumes of CO₂ from the atmosphere while continuing to supply clean power.

Job Description

As the Multi Skilled Engineer you will be tasked with the following;

• Fault finding and maintaining of plant mechanical and electrical equipment.
• Working in line with maintenance techniques and best practices.
• Undertaking / assisting in plant developments & projects.
• Working with the company CMMS (Maximo) to assure accurate maintenance records, and comprehensive asset data information.
• Participate in project support when required, leading commissioning activities and ensuring all of the required engineering documentation exists.
• Liaising with and supervising external vendors on specific repairs / maintenance, including some weekend working.
• Adhere to all Health, Safety and Environmental legislation at all times.
• Work in accordance with the Safety Rules, actively managing subcontractors with the setting to work process and supervising contractors.
• Operating at all times safely, in line with Core Elements & Expectations, and at all times adhering to the companies Life Saving Rules.
• Report unsafe acts and conditions within the observation reporting tool and perform or assist with investigations when requested.
• Assist with ensuring all maintenance equipment is regularly checked and is complaint with HSE regulations and that any defects are reported.
• Assist in outage planning, scheduling, coordination and generation of any preparatory works as required.
• Proactively report equipment defects and suggest remediation and improvement plans.
• Become an integral part of the Asset Maintenance Team, routinely liaising with other areas of the business to effectively maximise the asset availability and utilisation.
• Proactively provide support to the Management of Change process, raising instances for consideration, and supporting the assessment of other engineering changes when required.
• To plan and carry out planned preventative maintenance on all plant and equipment aiming to achieve maximum plant availability, with zero unplanned down time, along with other Maintenance tasks as instructed.
• Working with engineering drawings, P&ID's.
• Maintain a high standard of housekeeping within the workshop and the rest of the facility.
• To carry out equipment breakdowns effectively and efficiently.
• Conduct safety compliance inspections and maintain records.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Multi Skilled Engineer should have:

• Recognised apprenticeship or equivalent training scheme.
• A recognised qualification at ONC/City & Guilds/NVQ level 3 qualifications (or equivalent experience)
• Able to demonstrate experience in maintenance and repair of a wide and varied range of mechanical systems, including rotating equipment.
• Involvement in plant mobilisation and commissioning is desirable but not essential.
• Knowledge and practical experience of Conveyors, Chain Drives, Hydraulics and Pneumatics.
• Demonstrable experience working with Permit-to-Work systems.
