Job summary

Raby Estates in County Durham is seeking a skilled Painter & Decorator to join the Estate Maintenance Team. You will primarily decorate domestic, commercial and heritage buildings and assist with property repairs and refurbishment projects.

We value high-quality workmanship, attention to detail and the ability to work independently or as part of a wider estate team, with a strong health and safety mindset.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in painting and decorating on domestic and commercial properties.
• NVQ qualification or equivalent in the building sector.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Strong awareness of health and safety and ability to lead by example.
• High attention to detail with pride in producing quality work.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
• Honest, reliable, and flexible with a positive, can-do attitude.
• NVQ or equivalent qualification of level 2 or above.
• Minimum 5 years’ wider construction or property maintenance experience.
• Experience working with traditional and heritage buildings.
• Additional trade skills including joinery, tiling, plumbing, roofing or plastering.

• Prepare surfaces using traditional and modern methods to achieve high-quality finishes.

Raby Estates comprises substantial landholdings and diverse operations across County Durham and Shropshire. Raby Castle, near Staindrop, has been home to the Vane family for generations and continues to grow as one of the foremost visitor attractions in the North.

Owned by Lord Barnard, the Estate encompasses a diverse range of operations and property assets, including heritage buildings and historic estate properties, residential properties across Teesdale, visitor attractions and tourism businesses, in-hand and tenanted farms, sporting enterprises, ongoing restoration, refurbishment and development projects, and a commitment to heritage conservation and the local community.

As part of an exciting programme of refurbishment, restoration and ongoing maintenance works, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Painter & Decorator (Multi Skilled) to join our dedicated Estate Maintenance Team.

Role Overview

This role plays a key part in supporting the delivery of high-quality decorating and maintenance works across the Estate.

The successful candidate will predominantly undertake painting and decorating works throughout a diverse portfolio of residential, commercial, agricultural and heritage buildings. In addition, they will utilise broader trade skills to assist with property repairs and refurbishment projects.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Painting & Decorating

• Plan and manage your own workload effectively, including ordering materials and organising work schedules.

• Work collaboratively with other trades and departments across the Estate.
• Ensure all works comply with health and safety legislation and Estate standards.

• Undertake any other duties reasonably required.
