Job summary

Step Academy Trust is seeking an experienced caretaker/site manager to oversee multiple academy sites in Greater London. You will manage staff, liaise with contractors, enforce health and safety, and lead maintenance tasks to safeguard buildings and grounds.

Strong communication, teamwork, and a commitment to equality policies are essential, with the ability to work across different sites and drive staff development within the Trust.

Qualifications

• Experience managing staff in an academy or public institution.
• Previous caretaker/site manager role experience.
• Experience monitoring contractors and suppliers.
• Knowledge of cleaning materials, methods, appliances and quality control of academy cleaning staff.
• Strong knowledge of health and safety requirements for academies/public institutions.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills across the academy community.
• Understanding of security practices for buildings and grounds.
• Able to work as part of a team or alone, across multiple sites.
• Ability to lead and motivate staff and perform light maintenance.
• Willingness to train and progress within the Trust.
• Commitment to equalities policies.

Responsibilities

• Oversee staff (e.g., cleaners) and ensure high standards of site upkeep.
• Monitor and liaise with contractors and suppliers to deliver services.
• Ensure adherence to health & safety requirements across sites.
• Monitor cleaning materials, methods and quality of work.
• Communicate effectively with all sections of the academy community.
• Apply security procedures for buildings and grounds.
• Work as part of a team or independently as required.
• Manage multiple sites and lead staff motivation and development.
• Carry out light maintenance and repairs as needed.
• Support training and progression within the Trust.

Job description

• Experience of managing staff (for example cleaners)
• Previous experience in a successful caretaker/ site manager position (or similar)
• Experience of monitoring and liaising with contractors and suppliers
• Experience of current cleaning materials/methods/appliances and monitoring the quality of work undertaken by the academy cleaning staff
• A working knowledge and understanding of health & safety requirements of an academy or other public institution
• Have suitable communication skills to all sections of the academy community both verbally and in writing
• Demonstrate knowledge of security methodology for both building and grounds
