Job summary

Manchester City Council seeks an experienced school Designated Safeguarding Lead to join its new Multi‑Agency Child Protection Teams (MACPTs) and shape decisions for children at risk of significant harm.

You will bring school‑based safeguarding expertise into city‑wide safeguarding practice, working with social care, health, police and education partners to strengthen outcomes for vulnerable children. The role is set within Manchester's transformed Families First framework.

Qualifications

• Significant experience as a school Designated Safeguarding Lead.
• Extensive safeguarding knowledge and a track record with children, families and communities.
• Experience in complex child protection decisions and multi‑agency work.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert safeguarding advice and consultation to schools and partner agencies.
• Act as the key conduit for safeguarding information sharing between schools and MACPT.
• Review and analyse safeguarding concerns, attendance and inclusion data.
• Contribute to multi‑agency child protection decision‑making where there are concerns about significant harm.
• Liaise with schools, academies, colleges, SEND, CME and EHE services.
• Support strategy discussions, child protection conferences and safeguarding planning.
• Identify patterns, risks and emerging safeguarding issues affecting children and communities.
• Help strengthen relationships between schools and safeguarding partners across Manchester.
