Job Description

To effectively, competently, and safely carry out machine preparation and inline inspection to the highest standards.

Main Tasks / Responsibilities / Authorities:
  1. Carry out pre-delivery inspections and local preparations, including fitting buckets, vandal guards, q-fits, radios, reverse cameras, and optional extras as required.
  2. Ensure all machines are checked as per the Pre Delivery Inspection and extras sheet.
  3. Complete work within time guides, informing the Supervisor of any additional work needed.
  4. Install software updates as new versions are released.
  5. Accurately complete systems and paperwork.
  6. Input data into Personal Digital Assistance in real-time, detailing work undertaken.
  7. Maintain a professional appearance, wear appropriate workwear and PPE, and keep the work area tidy.
  8. Report defects and use company tooling responsibly, adhering to test periods and instructions.
  9. Maintain a personal toolkit for effective job performance.
  10. Operate within health and safety guidelines, including COSHH regulations.
  11. Assist and coach colleagues with technical support as needed.
  12. Mentor and guide Trainees when required.
  13. Work overtime flexibly when necessary.
  14. Attend relevant training courses, possibly staying away from home, to maintain high standards of competence.
  15. Secure SMT GB premises when leaving, in line with key holding responsibilities.
  16. Follow standards of health, safety, quality, and environmental care.
  17. Perform any other duties reasonably assigned by your manager.
Requirements
  • Desirable: Hold a full driving license and maintain a good driving record.
  • Maintain a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Work well in a team and communicate effectively.
  • Be responsible, reliable, honest, trustworthy, and punctual.
  • Possess problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to operate heavy construction machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Understand technical literature and systems.
  • Work with a cost-conscious approach to maximize profitability.
  • Basic IT skills, including email usage.
  • High attention to detail and high standards.
Education / Professional Qualifications
  • Formal engineering qualification in Plant Maintenance, Agricultural/HGV mechanics (NVQ 2/C&G).
  • Relevant experience in heavy plant preparation and repair, including hydraulics and electrics.
  • Desirable: Welding skills.
