Job Description
To effectively, competently, and safely carry out machine preparation and inline inspection to the highest standards.
Main Tasks / Responsibilities / Authorities:
- Carry out pre-delivery inspections and local preparations, including fitting buckets, vandal guards, q-fits, radios, reverse cameras, and optional extras as required.
- Ensure all machines are checked as per the Pre Delivery Inspection and extras sheet.
- Complete work within time guides, informing the Supervisor of any additional work needed.
- Install software updates as new versions are released.
- Accurately complete systems and paperwork.
- Input data into Personal Digital Assistance in real-time, detailing work undertaken.
- Maintain a professional appearance, wear appropriate workwear and PPE, and keep the work area tidy.
- Report defects and use company tooling responsibly, adhering to test periods and instructions.
- Maintain a personal toolkit for effective job performance.
- Operate within health and safety guidelines, including COSHH regulations.
- Assist and coach colleagues with technical support as needed.
- Mentor and guide Trainees when required.
- Work overtime flexibly when necessary.
- Attend relevant training courses, possibly staying away from home, to maintain high standards of competence.
- Secure SMT GB premises when leaving, in line with key holding responsibilities.
- Follow standards of health, safety, quality, and environmental care.
- Perform any other duties reasonably assigned by your manager.
Requirements
- Desirable: Hold a full driving license and maintain a good driving record.
- Maintain a continuous improvement mindset.
- Work well in a team and communicate effectively.
- Be responsible, reliable, honest, trustworthy, and punctual.
- Possess problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
- Ability to operate heavy construction machinery safely and efficiently.
- Understand technical literature and systems.
- Work with a cost-conscious approach to maximize profitability.
- Basic IT skills, including email usage.
- High attention to detail and high standards.
Education / Professional Qualifications
- Formal engineering qualification in Plant Maintenance, Agricultural/HGV mechanics (NVQ 2/C&G).
- Relevant experience in heavy plant preparation and repair, including hydraulics and electrics.
- Desirable: Welding skills.
