Job Description

This hybrid role requires reporting to Concord, NC three times per week, with flexibility for weekend race events. The successful candidate will apply data science and modeling techniques to develop race strategy tools, aiding pre-race planning and live decision-making during races.

Responsibilities

1. Refine existing AI/ML models for motorsports applications, updating Python code as needed.
2. Develop a platform for Monte Carlo simulations.
3. Create and refine tire degradation models for accurate predictions.
4. Design visualizations to communicate insights effectively, collaborating with IT and software teams for implementation.
5. Validate race strategy tools, collaborate with IMSA and WEC teams, and analyze vehicle pace and race dynamics.
6. Work with technical teams across GM to develop and support race strategy tools and models.
7. Co-develop race strategy software with data science and IT teams.
8. Apply analysis techniques across different racing series to validate and refine models.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field.
• 5+ years in top-level motorsports series, with 2+ years developing or using strategy tools.
• Deep knowledge of motorsports race strategy tools and analysis during live races.
• Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or similar programming languages.
• Familiarity with AI/ML techniques and industry applications.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to navigate team politics.
• Ability to travel within the US up to 10%.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a related quantitative field.
• Experience in tire modeling and simulation workflows in motorsports.
• Knowledge of machine learning libraries and big data tools.
