Job summary

Oldham Council is seeking a Motor Vehicle Mechanic within the Fleet Management Service at Moorhey Street Depot, Oldham. You will repair the council’s diverse fleet and perform DVSA and Compliance tests on private hire and Hackney vehicles.

The role requires at least 12 months’ experience with commercial vehicles, ability to work with limited supervision, and accurate paperwork completion including job sheets and inspection reports.

Qualifications

• 12 months minimum experience with commercial vehicles.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision repairing and servicing vehicles to manufacturers standards.
• Able to complete job sheets and inspection reports.

Responsibilities

• Carry out DVSA and Compliance tests on Oldham’s Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Fleet.
• Diagnose faults, recommend, and undertake cost effective repairs.
• Undertake planned service and safety inspections of vehicles and equipment.
• Complete time sheets, job sheets, service sheets and inspection reports in line with Council Policy, ‘O’ licence compliance and good practice.
• Take vehicles to MOT and DVSA test stations, rectify minor failure items (following approval / on site).

Hours: 36.66 per week (shift patter over 7 days)

Role Overview:

Working within the council’s Fleet Management Service, you will be expected to carry out repair Oldham’s diverse fleet of vehicles and plant to the required standards and carry out DVSA and Compliance tests on Oldham’s private hire and Hackney carriage vehicles.

Key Requirements:

To succeed in this role you will need as a minimum:

• Ability to work with minimum supervision repairing and servicing vehicles to manufactures standards and times.
• Ability to complete paperwork associated with the job, e.g. job sheets and service inspection sheets.
• 12 months minimum experience of working on commercial vehicles and some small plant.
