Job description

MidKent College's Motor Vehicle Department is seeking to recruit an experienced Lecturer to support students in completing their City & Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Vehicle Maintenance and Level 2 Certificate and Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles. This is a permanent position, working 29.6 hours per week, throughout the year.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and deliver engaging lessons, create lesson plans, and assess student progress.
  2. Communicate effectively: Explain complex concepts clearly and understandably.
  3. Bring sound industry experience to provide practical insights and examples.
  4. Stay updated with the latest automotive technologies and teaching methods.
  5. Assess student work, provide constructive feedback, and ensure compliance with academic standards.
  6. Deliver high-quality teaching according to college standards, prepare teaching materials, and develop curriculum.
  7. Undertake quality assurance in collaboration with the Head of Department, including monitoring student progress and reporting.
  8. Manage day-to-day course administration, including communication, problem solving, timetable management, and coordinating work experience and enrichment activities.
  9. Assist with recruitment, enrolment procedures, and induction programs for students.
  10. Hold regular meetings with students to set and review SMART targets, support UCAS applications, and address pastoral needs.
  11. Monitor attendance and student results, and develop action plans for improvement.
  12. Support English and Maths provision, including monitoring attendance and student movement.
  13. Participate in meetings, events, and college committees, including parent evenings and CPD activities.
  14. Collaborate with colleagues to develop courses and training materials, and participate in peer observation and mentoring.
  15. Assist with departmental administration, including attendance tracking, reporting, and managing the college's VLE.
  16. Contribute to quality assurance processes such as verification, moderation, and course reviews.
