Job summary

Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Mortuary Services Manager to oversee the mortuary operations at Sunderland Royal Hospital, South Tyneside District Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead. The post holder will ensure high standards of service for the deceased and bereaved, working closely with Consultant Pathologists and support staff.

Responsibilities

• Manage and control the mortuary service across Sunderland Royal Hospital, South Tyneside District Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead.
• Responsible for producing and updating Standard Operating Procedures for the mortuary and for staff eg portering and domestics.
• Advise on the department's position with regard to Trust policies such as bereavement policy and transportation of bodies.
• Involved with staff recruitment and selection.
• Provide statistics required for pathology business planning and budgetary control.
• Plan daily work priorities and allocate staff across 3 sites.
• Keep weekly attendance records including annual and sick leave.
• Organise daily and on-call rota to cover in hours and out-of-hours emergencies across three sites.
• Record monthly returns required by the Trusts for charging the local authority and dispatch to the relevant department.
• Assess the need for replacement stock and ordering of supplies and equipment.
• Act as a key holder for the department.
