Job summary

Gateshead Health is seeking a Trainee/Qualified Anatomical Pathology Technician to develop knowledge and competency in specialized pathology techniques. The role involves routine and advanced post mortem procedures, including preparation of the deceased for viewing, autopsy, and police identification, with trainee support toward qualification.

Qualified candidates will join a 24/7 on-call rota covering three SOTW sites, with core shifts 8:00–16:00 (or 8:30–16:30 depending on service needs).

Qualifications

• 3 GCSEs or equivalent qualification.
• Experience in a health care setting or funeral service.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Basic computer skills; good manual dexterity and coordination.
• Ability to work under pressure for prolonged periods.
• Ability to lift/move heavy loads and operate equipment.

As part of the team the qualified post holder will have developed knowledge experience and competency in specialised anatomical pathology techniques. It is a primary role of the post to carry out both routine and advanced post mortem procedures including the preparation of the deceased for viewing, autopsy and police identification. The post holder will provide specialist advice to users of the service within and out with the Trust in a manner commensurate with the sensitive nature of the work. Any trainee will be trained to work towards the above job description.

Once qualified the successful candidate will participate in a 24/ 7 on call rota which covers all 3 SOTW sites. The core working shift pattern is 8-4pm or 8.30-4.30pm depending on service needs .
