Job summary

NHS Professionals is recruiting for an Anatomic Pathology Technician to join the Pathology Department at University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust. The role supports a comprehensive mortuary service, carrying out routine and specialised autopsy activities.

You will have NHS mortuary experience, assist senior mortuary staff, handle data entry, and help liaise with funeral directors. The post is full-time with Monday–Friday hours, 8:30 to 16:30.

Qualifications

• Experience in NHS mortuary settings and body checks.
• Experience liaising with funeral directors within a mortuary context.
• Ability to support senior mortuary staff in daily operations.

Responsibilities

• Receive and register deceased patients within the Trust and local health economy.
• Enter patient data on the laboratory computer system.
• Identify and register patient effects per legal requirements.
• Store the patient according to condition and department protocols.
• Facilitate patient identification confirmation.
• Prepare patient for autopsy and assist during autopsy with tissue handling and data collection.
• Ensure records are maintained and policies followed for organ and tissue retention.
