Job summary

Coventry Building Society is seeking a Mortgage Underwriter in our New Lending area to accurately process mortgage applications and verify policy compliance. You will review calculations and documents, maintain clear communication with brokers, solicitors and customers, and highlight any discrepancies with precision.

After completing training (up to 6 months) you’ll adopt a hybrid pattern, with at least two days in the Cheltenham office.

About the role

Our New Lending area has the opportunity to join them as a Mortgage Underwriter.
This role is responsible for accurately processing our customer mortgage applications through our systems, ensuring they meet the appropriate policies and criteria. The role holder underwrites cases by checking mortgage calculations, various customer's documents such as payslips and proof of I.D, ensuring high levels of accuracy and attention to detail within this fast paced, customer focused environment. It requires strong attention to detail to be able to highlight any discrepancies or concerns.

The role also involves working closely with mortgage brokers, solicitors and customers by making call to them on a daily basis, keeping them up to date on the mortgage process and gain any extra information needed will be an important part of this opportunity. Continuous learning and keeping up to date with product and policy changes will be key as well as and achieving quality standards.

Once you're trained and comfortable in role (up to 6 months) you'll revert to a hybrid working pattern. We'll then ask you to work at least two days (more if you prefer) from our Cheltenham office. The role operates Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm.

For this role you'll need be confident talking to people and working in a fast paced environment. Coping with pressures and problem solving will be a parts of the role so you'll be a professional and committed person with a flexible, team focused approach. You'll also be passionate learning and developing your mortgage knowledge as well as being accurate and keen to learn.

To be successful in this role its essential you have:
  • Recent experience in a customer focused role and providing exceptional service.
  • Evidence of working in processing and / or administration with high attention to detail.
  • Experience of handling more challenging and / or complex queries or pieces of work.
  • Excellent communication skills including over the phone
  • Good problem solving and decision making skills
  • The ability to work in a fast paced environment
