Job summary

SOCOTEC UK & Ireland is seeking a Monitoring Surveyor in Acton, London. The role is a 6-month fixed-term contract with potential extension. You will organise and perform site-based engineering surveys and monitoring activities, including track surveys and precise level work.

The ideal candidate has a surveying or civil engineering qualification, experience with Leica equipment, AutoCAD and MS Office, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Qualifications

  • A qualification in Surveying, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience using Leica surveying equipment including Total Stations, GPS receivers and precise levels.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrable experience within engineering surveying or monitoring surveys.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to prioritise in a fast-paced environment.
  • A full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Organising and delivering site-based engineering surveys and monitoring activities.
  • Carrying out precise movement monitoring surveys.
  • Undertaking precise traversing and levelling for survey control.
  • Completing railway track surveys and producing survey plans using AutoCAD.
  • Conducting as-built surveys and preparing reports in MS Word/Excel.
  • Liaising with clients to provide project updates and ensure delivery.
  • Maintaining health, safety, quality and environmental standards on site.

We're looking for dedicated Monitoring Surveyors to join our Monitoring & Surveying Division, with 6-Month Fixed-Term contract positions available with an option to be extended. We are seeking proactive, reliable, and flexible Monitoring Surveyors to join our Monitoring & Surveying team. In this role, you'll need the confidence to work independently, alongside the ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team. A background in engineering surveying or civil engineering, together with knowledge of construction, infrastructure, rail and monitoring survey techniques, is essential to thrive in this position.

The tasks you will undertake will include (but are not limited to):

  • Organising and delivering site-based engineering surveys and manual monitoring activities.
  • Carrying out precise movement monitoring surveys.
  • Undertaking precise traversing and levelling for survey control.
  • Completing railway track surveys.
  • Producing survey plans and section drawings using AutoCAD or similar software.
  • Conducting as-built surveys.
  • Preparing reports using Microsoft Word and Excel templates.
  • Liaising with clients and colleagues to provide project updates and ensure successful project delivery.
  • Maintaining the highest standards of health, safety, quality and environmental compliance on site.
Qualifications

To be a successful Monitoring Surveyor, you should be able to demonstrate:

  • A qualification in Surveying, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience using Leica surveying equipment, including Total Stations, GPS receivers and precise levels.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrable experience within engineering surveying or monitoring surveys.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to prioritise work in a fast-paced environment.
  • A full UK driving licence.
Desirable Skills Include
  • Experience using MicroSurvey StarNet and N4CE Survey Software.
  • Knowledge of geotechnical and structural instrumentation.
  • Experience working within construction, tunnelling or rail environments.
  • CSCS, PTS and Sentinel ICI-LU accreditation.
