As a MongoDB Database Administrator, you will work in project teams designing, building, and maintaining MongoDB databases and infrastructure to deliver robust business solutions. You will be involved from design and build to supporting both non-production and production environments. We promote a learning culture at NBS, encouraging ongoing development and skill enhancement in relevant technologies. You will also have opportunities to share ideas and collaborate within our professional communities.

Nationwide offers hybrid working where possible, combining in-office collaboration with home working. You will spend at least two days per week, or if part-time, 40% of your working time, based at our London, Swindon, Northampton, or Bournemouth offices. Further details will be provided by your hiring manager. Additionally, if based outside these locations, you will be required to attend Swindon or London once a month for workshops and meetings.

What you’ll be doing

You will collaborate within delivery teams to build optimal solutions for Nationwide, offering technical leadership and SME advice. You will guide less experienced engineers, contribute to system design, and troubleshoot MongoDB issues, including performance tuning and index optimization. Occasionally, you may be required to work on-call.

About you

You have a proven track record in delivering technical solutions with MongoDB, including experience with:

• Linux operating system concepts
• MongoDB OpsManager for backups and deployments
• MongoDB architecture, replication, and sharding
• JSON document data structures, exporting/importing documents
• Troubleshooting and performance tuning within MongoDB
• Working across multiple projects and sharing expertise
• Building relationships with technical and business stakeholders
• Learning new technologies quickly

Additionally, knowledge of at least three of the following areas is desirable:

• Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Ansible)
• LDAP integration
• Red Hat OpenShift
• Kafka
• Network and infrastructure security
• Agile methodologies and Scrum
• Regulatory environments such as PCI and GDPR
• Working with third-party suppliers
