Job summary

RAC is expanding its SMR division and seeking a Mobile Vehicle Technician. You’ll work on pre-booked jobs, servicing, diagnostics and repairs with a fully equipped RAC van and planned schedules. The role avoids emergency callouts and focuses on delivering quality, planned work directly at members' locations.

You’ll join a structured team in the West Midlands with overtime and bonus opportunities, including premium-rate overtime after probation. A sure path for skilled mobile technicians.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience
• 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic
• A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine servicing and diagnostics on pre-booked jobs
• Perform in-depth repairs you’d normally complete in a workshop
• Provide member advice and recommendations after inspection
• Vehicle safety checks aligned to RAC standards

The RAC is known for roadside rescue - but this isn’t that.

Our Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division is a newer, fast-growingpart of the RAC, built to deliver planned, structured repair and servicingdirectly to members - from their driveway to their workplace car park.

There are no emergency callouts, no unpredictable shift patterns and noroadside recoveries.Instead, you’ll work through a scheduled list ofjobs, with the time, tools and support you need to do quality work.

What to expect

Your day starts with a clear digital schedule. Each job is pre‑booked, with themember expecting you.You’ll carry out:

• Routine servicing
• Diagnostics using advanced mobile equipment
• In‑depth repairs you’d normally complete in a workshop
• Member advice and recommendations based on your inspection
• Vehicle safety checks aligned to RAC standards

And because SMR is structured, you’re not reacting to breakdowns - you’redelivering planned work that you can prepare for.

From day one, you’ll have everything you need: a fully equipped RAC van, fuelcard, uniform, full tool set and advanced diagnostics. You’ll use yourtechnical skill and problem‑solving ability to get people moving again; safely,quickly and confidently.
