Job summary

RAC is expanding its SMR division with a Mobile Vehicle Technician role across the West Midlands. You’ll work on pre-booked jobs, performing routine servicing, diagnostics and in‑depth repairs at the customer’s driveway or workplace.

You’ll provide member guidance and ensure RAC safety standards are met. From day one you’ll receive a fully equipped RAC van and tools, with a guaranteed overtime option and opportunities to increase earnings through bonuses.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience
• 5+ years’ experience as Vehicle Technician/Mechanic
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points

• Acompetitive base salary of £40,178, with on-target earnings of up to£52,000

The RAC is known for roadside rescue - but this isn’t that.

Our Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division is a newer, fast-growingpart of the RAC, built to deliver planned, structured repair and servicingdirectly to members - from their driveway to their workplace car park.

There are no emergency callouts, no unpredictable shift patterns and noroadside recoveries.Instead, you’ll work through a scheduled list ofjobs, with the time, tools and support you need to do quality work.

What to expect

Your day starts with a clear digital schedule. Each job is pre‑booked, with themember expecting you.You’ll carry out:

• Routine servicing
• Diagnostics using advanced mobile equipment
• In‑depth repairs you’d normally complete in a workshop
• Member advice and recommendations based on your inspection
• Vehicle safety checks aligned to RAC standards

And because SMR is structured, you’re not reacting to breakdowns - you’redelivering planned work that you can prepare for.

From day one, you’ll have everything you need: a fully equipped RAC van, fuelcard, uniform, full tool set and advanced diagnostics. You’ll use yourtechnical skill and problem‑solving ability to get people moving again; safely,quickly and confidently.

What you’ll need

Either:

NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience

or

5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic

and

A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points
