Job summary

The RAC is recruiting for a Mobile Vehicle Technician in our SMR Division. You will perform planned maintenance and diagnostics on customers' vehicles, working from a fully equipped RAC van across our Central Birmingham cluster.

This role focuses on delivering high‑quality service with pre‑booked appointments, not reactive callouts. From day one you’ll use advanced diagnostics and a full toolset, with clear schedules and support to complete jobs safely and efficiently, while building strong

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years' experience
• 5+ years' experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points

Job description

Join the RAC as a Mobile Vehicle Technician in our SMR Division - a new era of mobile repair.

A competitive base salary of £40,178, with on-target earnings of up to £52,000

A guaranteed overtime option to increase your base salary to £44,385, plus additional overtime and bonus opportunities

40 hours per week, with core hours from8:30 am to 5:00 pm, and 1 in 4 Saturdays.

The RAC is known for roadside rescue - but this isn’t that.

Our Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division is a newer, fast-growing part of the RAC, built to deliver planned, structured repair and servicing directly to members - from their driveway to their workplace car park.

There are no emergency callouts, no unpredictable shift patterns and no roadside recoveries. Instead, you’ll work through a scheduled list of jobs, with the time, tools and support you need to do quality work.

Where you’ll work

You’ll be part of the Central Birmingham cluster, covering areas like Birmingham City Centre, Digbeth, Aston, Handsworth, Erdington. You’ll be out on the road in your local area, working through a clearly planned schedule of appointments - no reactive callouts, just organised, pre‑booked work where you can focus on doing the job properly.
