Job summary

Staffordshire County Council is recruiting Mobile School Crossing Patrols to cover absence across the county. The role is term-time, with full training and uniform provided, and travel mileage paid.

The ideal candidate will hold a valid driving licence, have good road sense, experience with children, be reliable, punctual and able to work flexibly across morning and afternoon crossing times. Enhanced DBS checks are required and pre-employment health assessment is part of onboarding; interviews

Qualifications

• Full driving licence is essential.
• Good road sense and knowledge of the Highway Code.
• Experience of working with children is desirable.

• Ability to display sound judgment and act on own initiative.
• Ability to follow processes and procedures.
• Basic computer skills are an advantage.

• Punctuality and reliability are essential.
• Willingness to work in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Travel to various locations to cover absences for school crossings.
• Be available to take telephone calls at 7:00 am and at midday.
• No set hours; duties vary around crossing times (7:30–9:00 and 14:30–16:00).
• Duty durations range from 30 minutes to 1 hour per location.
• Mileage and travel time are paid when working.
• Post subject to enhanced DBS check and pre-employment health assessment.
• Interviews are held locally; other vacancies may take priority.
