Job summary

Nelson Permanent Placements are seeking a Building Services mobile Mechanical Plumbing & Heating Engineer to work across live purpose-built student accommodation around Bristol and the surrounding area.

You will deliver planned preventive maintenance, reactive repairs and ensure statutory compliance for heating, hot water and cold water systems, including HIUs and district heating interfaces. You’ll work in occupied buildings with a focus on safety, accuracy in reporting and customer service.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Plumbing and Heating or Mechanical Engineering Services.
• G3 Unvented Hot Water Systems certification.
• Proven experience maintaining commercial plant rooms, including boilers, pumps, pressurisation units, booster sets and calorifiers.
• Full UK driving licence (company van provided).
• CSCS / ECS / JIB or equivalent skills card (or willingness to obtain). Right to work in the UK and willingness to undergo a DBS check (roles involve working in occupied student residences).

Responsibilities

• Carry out PPM on plant room equipment to SFG20 schedules, plate heat exchangers, calorifiers and cylinders, pumps, pressurisation units, cold water booster sets, expansion vessels, valves and strainers.
• Diagnose and repair reactive faults on heating, domestic hot water and cold water systems within contracted response times.
• Maintain and repair unvented hot water systems, including safety devices, in line with G3 requirements.
• Carry out water hygiene tasks in line with ACOP L8 and HSG274, including temperature monitoring and TMV servicing.
• Record all work accurately on mobile CAFM system and assist with quotations for additional works.
• Work safely with RAMS, permits, safe isolation and dynamic risk assessments on site.
• Liaise with client site teams, residents and contractors to minimise disruption in occupied buildings.
• Keep van, tools and equipment in good condition and manage stock responsibly.
