Job summary

Boels Rental is seeking a Mobile Plant & Tool Fitter to service, repair and test light to medium machinery from our Swindon depot. You will work on engines, hydraulics and electrical systems, ensuring equipment is safe to hire out.

You will hold a full UK driving licence, work a 0730–1700 schedule Monday to Friday, and join a team of skilled colleagues with a strong emphasis on safety and quality in every task.

Qualifications

• High level mechanical, diagnostic and fault-finding skills; ability to work quickly on site.
• Capable of working independently without direct supervision.
• Proven experience repairing plant equipment and small tools.
• Hold a full UK Driving Licence and valid right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Service, maintain and repair light and medium machinery and plant equipment, including scissor lifts and generators up to 100kva.
• Test and certify machinery using electronic equipment to ensure safety for hire.
• Carry out safety inspections and keep comprehensive service records.
• Base at Swindon depot with field work across the south area when required.

Job description

Are you taking care of Boels Rental, as our Mobile Fitter covering the south area, when you are not out on the road your base will be our Swindon depot. As our mobile Plant & Tool Fitter, you will be kept busy servicing, maintaining and repairing light and medium machinery and plant equipment which will also include scissor lifts and generators up to 100kva. After your repair task is completed, you’ll then get busy using electronic equipment to check, and test that machinery, so that it is certified safe and fit to be hired out to our customers. Some of the machinery that you could get the chance to work on is engines, transmission systems, hydraulics, electronics, pneumatic, and parts of plant chassis/frames, such as tracks, wheels and booms. You will have the chance to service and repair anything from generators, compressors and concrete mixers to compacting machines, (road rollers/plates), powered hand tools and disc cutters. You’ll never get bored, that’s for sure! With your acute awareness of H&S compliance, you will carefully carry out safety inspections and checks, keeping comprehensive records of the work. As an experienced Plant & Tool Fitter, safety and quality will, of course, come naturally to you anyway. Your working hours will be Monday to Friday, 0730hrs to 1700hrs. The orange team you can be a part of consists of several enthusiastic colleagues in various fields.

Your Profile

• Have a high level of mechanical, diagnostic and fault-finding skills, coupled with the ability to work quickly and effectively to minimise delays on site. (You love pulling kit apart, finding the issue and repairing it back to full serviceability)
• Be able to work independently, and make decisions, without direct supervision. (You have a superb knowledge of plant equipment and small tools and you proactively 'crack-on' and get the job done!)
• Have proven experience of repairing plant equipment and small tools. (Perhaps you have worked for one of our competitors in the past or you just know plant machinery inside-out and back-to-front!)
• Hold a full UK Driving Licence. (You might need to jump into the Boels van and pop over to a customer's site to quickly rectify a technical issue)
• Have valid proof of your right to work in the UK – (Boels does not arrange relocation, work visas or provide visa sponsorship)
