Job summary

PPL (Progress Plant Ltd) is seeking a Mobile Plant Mechanic to join our Leicester depot. Based on-site, you will service, diagnose, and repair mobile plant and attachments, ensuring safety and compliance across client sites and the depot.

You will work with the hire desk and site teams to prioritise workloads, maintain accurate service records, and support timely delivery of equipment to customers. A valid UK driving licence and relevant plant maintenance qualifications are essential.

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in plant maintenance and repair.
• Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical systems used in plant and tools.
• Understanding of health, safety, and compliance requirements in plant hire or construction.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, diagnose, and repair a variety of plant equipment, small tools and attachments.
• Carry out routine servicing, inspections and safety compliance checks.
• Prepare equipment for hire and respond to breakdowns to minimize downtime.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Mobile Plant Mechanic role based in Leicester. The Mobile Plant Mechanic will be responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing a variety of plant equipment, small tools, and attachments both in the depot and on client sites. Day-to-day tasks include carrying out routine servicing and inspections, troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues, and ensuring all equipment meets safety and compliance standards. The role involves preparing equipment for hire, responding to breakdowns promptly, and keeping accurate maintenance records. The Mobile Plant Mechanic will collaborate with the hire desk, drivers, and site teams to prioritize workloads and support efficient delivery of equipment to clients. Qualifications

• Strong mechanical aptitude with experience maintaining and repairing mobile plant, construction machinery, or heavy equipment.
• Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical systems used in plant and tools.
• Understanding of health, safety, and compliance requirements in a plant hire or construction environment.
• Ability to diagnose faults, interpret technical manuals, and use appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment.
• Relevant vocational qualification or apprenticeship in plant maintenance, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
• Full UK driving licence; ability to travel to client sites as required.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage workload, maintain service records, and meet deadlines.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills, with a customer-focused approach when dealing with clients and colleagues.
• Previous experience in plant hire, construction, or a similar industry is highly advantageous.
