Job summary

OCU is seeking an experienced Mobile Plant / Tool Fitter Mechanic for our Plant & Transport team based in Shaftesbury, Dorset. The role is field-based, covering the South West with travel between home and sites to service and repair our fleet.

You will perform planned maintenance, fault finding, and repairs on heavy plant, lorries, vans and general fleet vehicles, ensuring safety and high-quality work for our operational teams.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in plant maintenance, mechanical fitting or a similar position.
• Strong fault-finding skills and mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to work independently and manage workload.
• Full UK driving licence is essential.
• You must own your own tools.
• Willingness to travel across the South West.
• Reliable, practical and safety-conscious approach.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance and servicing of plant and vehicles.
• Diagnose faults and complete mechanical repairs across plant and fleet.
• Respond to reactive maintenance and breakdowns across the region.
• Maintain heavy plant, dump trucks, lorries, vans and general fleet vehicles.
• Carry out field-based and workshop repairs as required.
• Use technical manuals and manufacturer specifications to guide work.
• Maintain accurate records of servicing, inspections and repairs.
• Work closely with operational teams to minimise downtime.
• Ensure all work is completed safely and to required standards.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping and care of company assets.

We are looking for an experienced Mobile Plant / Tool Fitter Mechanic to join our Plant & Transport team.

This is a field-based role covering the South West and surrounding areas, including Bristol, Dorset, Berkshire and neighbouring counties. You'll start and finish from home, travelling across the region to maintain and repair OCU's fleet of plant, machinery and vehicles.

We offer a very competitive package, company vehicle, overtime paid at time and a half, PAYE or CIS options and a permanent position with an established and growing business.

You'll be responsible for planned servicing, fault finding, repairs and reactive breakdowns across a varied fleet including heavy plant, dump trucks, lorries, vans and general fleet vehicles.

We're looking for someone who is confident working independently, takes pride in their work and can keep equipment safe, reliable and ready for our operational teams.

• Strong practical mechanical and fault-finding skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Own tools.
• Willingness to travel across the South West.
• Reliable, practical and safety-conscious approach.

Desirable

• Experience maintaining heavy plant and construction equipment.
• Experience with dump trucks, excavators, loaders, telehandlers or similar.
• HGV or heavy vehicle maintenance experience.
• NVQ or equivalent mechanical/engineering qualification.
• Previous construction, utilities or infrastructure experience.
