LJ Recruitment is looking for an experienced Mobile Plant Fitter to join a well-established company in Halstead, Essex. The role blends workshop maintenance with customer-site visits across the region, focusing on servicing, repairing and diagnosing a broad range of construction plant and heavy machinery.

You will work with a skilled team, using diagnostic equipment and field service techniques to ensure high safety and quality standards. Own tools and a full UK driving licence are essential.

Mobile Plant Fitter

Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Location: Halstead, Essex - Workshop & Field Based

Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30am - 5:00pm

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

We are recruiting for an experienced Mobile Plant Fitter to join a well-established and growing company based in Halstead, Essex.

This is a varied role combining workshop-based maintenance and repairs with visits to customer sites across Essex and the surrounding counties.

You will be responsible for servicing, maintaining and repairing a wide range of construction plant, heavy machinery and equipment, working both independently and as part of an experienced engineering team.

We would welcome applications from experienced Mobile Plant Fitters, Plant Mechanics, Field Service Engineers and Plant Engineers with strong mechanical, hydraulic and electrical fault-finding skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Service, maintain and repair a wide range of construction plant, heavy machinery and equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults.
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), routine servicing and reactive repairs.
• Attend customer sites across Essex and surrounding areas to diagnose faults and complete repairs.
• Use diagnostic equipment to identify and resolve mechanical and electrical issues.
• Manage repairs from initial fault diagnosis through to completion.
• Complete repairs in accordance with manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
• Maintain accurate service records, job sheets and repair documentation.
• Ensure all work is carried out safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

Equipment You Will Work On

You will be working with a varied range of construction plant and machinery, including:

• Excavators, dumpers and dump trucks
• Wheeled loaders and skid-steer loaders
• Crushers, screeners and compaction equipment
• Generators, water pumps and disc cutters
• Hydraulic attachments and lifting equipment
• Hand tools and site cabins

Skills and Experience Required

• Previous experience as a Mobile Plant Fitter, Plant Mechanic, Plant Engineer, Field Service Engineer or similar.
• Experience servicing, maintaining and repairing construction plant, heavy machinery or similar equipment.
• Strong mechanical knowledge, with good hydraulic and electrical fault-finding skills.
• Ability to diagnose faults and carry out repairs independently, including at customer sites.
• Experience using computer diagnostic equipment would be advantageous.
• Good problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
• Ability to maintain accurate service records and documentation.
• A reliable, self-motivated and flexible approach to work.
• Own tools and a full, clean UK driving licence are essential.
