Job summary

EMR is seeking a skilled Mobile Plant Fitter to join our Maintenance team in Cardiff. You will perform reactive, preventative and planned maintenance across South Wales operations, with some travel to other UK sites.

The role includes a weekly rotating shift, a company car allowance, specialist tooling and diagnostic equipment, and a strong emphasis on safety and reliability of portable plant assets.

Qualifications

• Proven experience maintaining heavy mobile plant in industrial settings.
• Competent on Caterpillar, Liebherr, Sennebogen equipment.
• Strong fault-finding across hydraulic, electrical and mechanical systems.
• Full UK Driving Licence and relevant NVQ/City & Guilds qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned maintenance, fault finding, repairs and breakdowns on mobile plant and port equipment.
• Diagnose hydraulic, electrical and mechanical faults using OEM tools and manuals.
• Apply LOTOTO procedures and maintain safe systems of work.
• Support initiatives to improve equipment reliability and availability.
• Collaborate with site operations, contractors and engineering to minimise downtime.

About Our Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mobile Plant Fitter to join our Maintenance team based in Cardiff. As a key member of the maintenance function, you will be responsible for carrying out reactive, preventative, predictive, and planned maintenance activities across our South Wales operations.

This is a mobile role covering Cardiff and surrounding sites, with occasional travel to other UK locations when operationally required. A company car allowance, specialist tooling, and diagnostic equipment will be provided.

The role will operate on a rotating weekly shift pattern, Monday to Friday, 8:00am–5:30pm, and the other week Wednesday to Sunday, 6:00am–3:30pm, with the shifts alternating each week.

What You Will Be Doing

• Carry out planned maintenance, fault finding, repairs, and breakdown response on a wide range of mobile plant and port equipment: Material Handlers (Sennebogen, Liebherr, Caterpillar), Wheeled Loading Shovels, Hydraulic Cranes, etc.
• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic faults using OEM diagnostic equipment and technical manuals.
• Apply and adhere to LOTOTO (Lock Out, Tag Out, Try Out) procedures and company safe systems of work.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing equipment reliability and availability.
• Work closely with site operations, contractors, and engineering colleagues to minimise downtime and maximise operational performance

About You

• Proven experience maintaining and repairing heavy mobile plant in a port, waste, quarry, recycling, aggregates, bulk handling, or industrial environment.
• Demonstrable competence working on: Caterpillar, Liebherr, Sennebogen
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills across hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
• Experience working with material handlers, loading shovels, cranes, reach stackers, forklifts, and heavy industrial plant.
• NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent qualification in Plant Maintenance, Heavy Vehicle Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
