Job summary

You will join RAC in a Mobile Vehicle Technician role within the SMR division, performing planned servicing, diagnostics, and repairs on customers’ vehicles away from a workshop. You’ll operate on a pre-booked schedule with a RAC van and full equipment, ensuring quality work and member satisfaction.

Expect a 40-hour week with back-to-base support, ongoing training, and opportunities to advance into diagnostic skills and EV-related work as part of a trusted national organisation.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience.
• Or 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic with a full UK driving licence (≤6 points).

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine servicing on customer vehicles.
• Diagnosting with advanced mobile equipment.
• Perform in-depth repairs that may be done in a workshop.
• Provide member advice and recommendations after inspection.
• Conduct vehicle safety checks aligned to RAC standards.

Join the RAC as a Mobile Vehicle Technician inour SMR Division - a new era of mobile repair.

• Acompetitive base salary of £40,170, with on-target earnings of up to£52,000

A Different Kind of RAC Role: Welcome toSMR

The RAC is known for roadside rescue - but this isn’t that.

Our Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division is a newer, fast-growingpart of the RAC, built to deliver planned, structured repair and servicingdirectly to members - from their driveway to their workplace car park.

There are no emergency callouts, no unpredictable shift patterns and noroadside recoveries. Instead, you’ll work through a scheduled list ofjobs, with the time, tools and support you need to do quality work.

Where you’ll work

You’ll be part of the Reading cluster, covering areas like Reading, Wokingham, Bracknell, Henley‑on‑Thames, Crowthorne, Sandhurst. You’ll be out on the road in your local area, working through a clearly planned schedule of appointments - no reactive callouts, just organised, pre‑booked work where you can focus on doing the job properly.

What to expect

Your day starts with a clear digital schedule. Each job is pre‑booked, with themember expecting you. You’ll carry out:

• Routine servicing
• Diagnostics using advanced mobile equipment
• In‑depth repairs you’d normally complete in a workshop
• Member advice and recommendations based on your inspection
• Vehicle safety checks aligned to RAC standards

And because SMR is structured, you’re not reacting to breakdowns - you’ll delivering planned work that you can prepare for.

From day one, you’ll have everything you need: a fully equipped RAC van, fuelcard, uniform, full tool set and advanced diagnostics. You’ll use yourtechnical skill and problem‑solving ability to get people moving again; safely,quickly and confidently.

What you’ll need

Either:
NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience
or
5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic and A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points
