Job summary

The RAC is expanding its SMR division with a Mobile Vehicle Technician role designed for planned, on-site work for members. You’ll perform scheduled servicing, diagnostics, and thorough repairs using mobile equipment, delivering high‑quality service in customers’ driveways or workplaces.

This role avoids emergency callouts and shifts, focusing on pre‑booked jobs with a clear timetable, tools provided, and ongoing training opportunities in diagnostics and EV readiness.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Light Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent, with 2+ years’ experience.
• Or 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic, and a full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.

• Acompetitive base salary of £40,170, with on-target earnings of up to£52,000

The RAC is known for roadside rescue - but this isn’t that.

Our Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division is a newer, fast-growing part of the RAC, built to deliver planned, structured repair and servicing directly to members - from their driveway to their workplace car park.

There are no emergency callouts, no unpredictable shift patterns and noroadside recoveries. Instead, you’ll work through a scheduled list ofjobs, with the time, tools and support you need to do quality work.

Where you’ll work

You’ll be part of the Newbury cluster, covering areas like Newbury, Thatcham, Andover, Hungerford, Lambourn, You’ll be out on the road in your local area, working through a clearly planned schedule of appointments - no reactive callouts, just organised, pre‑booked work where you can focus on doing the job properly.

Your day starts with a clear digital schedule. Each job is pre‑booked, with the member expecting you.

From day one, you’ll have everything you need: a fully equipped RAC van, fuelcard, uniform, full tool set and advanced diagnostics. You’ll use yourtechnical skill and problem‑solving ability to get people moving again; safely,quickly and confidently.

What you’ll need

Either:

NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience

or

5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic

and

A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points
