RAC is seeking a Mobile Vehicle Technician for its SMR division, delivering scheduled, pre-booked work from a RAC van. You’ll perform routine servicing, diagnostics, and in‑depth repairs away from roadside callouts, with clear schedules and professional member interactions.

Ideal candidates hold a NVQ2 in Light Vehicle Maintenance or 5+ years as a vehicle technician, plus a full UK driving licence. 40-hour weeks, some Saturdays, with earnings up to £52,000 and extensive benefits from day one.

• Acompetitive base salary of £40,170, with on-target earnings of up to£52,000

The RAC is known for roadside rescue - but this isn’t that.

Our Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division is a newer, fast-growing part of the RAC, built to deliver planned, structured repair and servicing directly to members - from their driveway to their workplace car park.

There are no emergency callouts, no unpredictable shift patterns and noroadside recoveries. Instead, you’ll work through a scheduled list ofjobs, with the time, tools and support you need to do quality work.

Where you’ll work

You’ll be part of the Newbury cluster, covering areas like Newbury, Thatcham, Andover, Hungerford, Lambourn, You’ll be out on the road in your local area, working through a clearly planned schedule of appointments - no reactive callouts, just organised, pre‑booked work where you can focus on doing the job properly.

Your day starts with a clear digital schedule. Each job is pre‑booked, with the member expecting you.

From day one, you’ll have everything you need: a fully equipped RAC van, fuelcard, uniform, full tool set and advanced diagnostics. You’ll use yourtechnical skill and problem‑solving ability to get people moving again; safely,quickly and confidently.

What you’ll need

Either:

NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience

or

5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic

and

A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points
