Job summary

Veolia UK is seeking a Chempac Chemist to join our mobile team covering the Southern UK, based out of Marchwood, Southampton. This role is 40 hours per week with travel to customer sites. You’ll list, package and label hazardous waste streams, assess contents, ensure safe transport and document generation, while contributing to health and safety compliance.

Qualifications

• Minimum A-Level Chemistry or degree/HNC in Chemistry (essential).
• Valid UK driving license (essential).
• Strong literacy and numeracy for accurate documentation.
• Knowledge of environmental legislation (desirable).
• ADR Licence, Forklift Truck Licence and First Aid qualifications desirable (training provided).

Responsibilities

• List, package and label hazardous waste streams at customer sites across the Southern UK region.
• Assess drums and their contents to determine handling and classification.
• Collect wastes from sites and ensure safe transport in 3.5t vehicles.
• Use IT systems to generate transport documents and quotes.
• Pump, decant and re-drum rusty or leaking containers safely.
• Sample various waste streams for classification purposes.
• Print and complete labels and documentation to meet customer expectations.
• Assess new inquiries and provide technical knowledge to customers and colleagues.
• Assist with chemist duties in the Hazardous Waste Transfer Station as needed.
• Assist with spillage clearance as required.
• Maintain stock levels of routine supplies.
• Provide mentoring to new starters when experienced.
