Job summary

Veolia is seeking a Chempac Chemist to list, package and label hazardous waste streams across the Southern UK region and assess drums for safe handling. The role involves collecting wastes, transporting them in 3.5t vans, and using IT systems to create transport documents and quotes.

You will sample waste streams, complete documentation, support new inquiries with technical knowledge, and mentor new starters while maintaining strong customer relationships and safety compliance.

Qualifications

• Minimum A-Level Chemistry or a degree/HNC in Chemistry or relevant scientific qualification (essential).
• Valid UK driving licence (essential).
• Knowledge of environmental legislation (desirable).
• ADR Licence, Forklift Truck Licence and First Aid qualifications desirable (training provided if not held).

Responsibilities

• List, package and label hazardous waste streams at customer sites across the Southern UK region.
• Assess drums and their contents at customer premises to determine appropriate handling and classification.
• Collect wastes from customer sites and ensure safe transportation in 3.5t Luton vans in accordance with road transport and hazardous waste regulations.
• Use IT systems to generate transport documents, reference safety data sheets and generate quotes when required.
• Sample various waste streams, predominantly hazardous waste, for classification purposes.
• Print and complete labels and ensure accurate completion of all documentation to meet customer expectations.
• Assess new customer inquiries and provide technical knowledge to customers and colleagues.
• Assist with chemist duties in the Hazardous Waste Transfer Station when needed.
• Assist with spillage clearance if required.
• Maintain adequate stock levels of routine supplies.
• Provide basic mentoring to new starters when suitably experienced.
• Foster good customer relationships and comply with all customer site rules.
