Job summary

Acclaim Handling Ltd is seeking a Workshop Engineer to service and repair forklift trucks from our Reading depot, working 40 hours per week Monday to Friday 08:00–16:30. You will liaise with the Service Manager and Service Controllers to ensure efficient maintenance at customer sites.

Role involves diagnosing electrical, mechanical and hydraulic faults, quoting repairs, and carrying out services to a high standard with adherence to current legislation. Valid UK driving licence required.

Qualifications

• Experience in electrical/mechanical engineering in heavy goods/plant/automotive sectors.
• Valid UK driving licence is required.
• Possess relevant UK work eligibility permits if applicable.
• Ability to work unsupervised when needed.

Responsibilities

• Service and repair forklift trucks at customer sites, liaising with the Service Manager.
• Onsite servicing of LPG, diesel, and electric forklifts to high standards.
• Identify chargeable repairs and provide quotes to customers.
• Carry out thorough examinations when qualified to do so.
• Maintain time entry, job reporting, parts requests, and customer sign-off via tablet.

A position has arisen at our Reading depot as a Workshop Engineer working 40 hours per week.

Position Description:

Hours of Work

Monday to Friday 08:00 to 16:30

Location

Working from home base but attached to a relevant Acclaim Handling Ltd depot.

Summary of Job

Working with the Service Manager and liaising with the Service Controllers to service and repair forklift trucks at customers sites.

Position Requirements

Onsite Customer Forklift Trucks Repairs

• Repair of electrical, mechanical and hydraulic components.
• Repairing hydraulic valves and rams.
• Repairing final drive and gearbox components.
• Repairing engines and components.
• Inspecting and providing quotes to customers regarding repairs, in close liaison with the Service Manager.
• To identify additional chargeable repairs that can be quoted to the customer.

Onsite Customer Forklift Truck Servicing

• Responsible for servicing LPG, diesel and electric powered forklift trucks to a high standard, and with a view to preventative maintenance.
• Using a check sheet ensure the equipment is fully functional, and conforms to current legislation.
• Changing the oil, filters, etc as necessary.
• To carry out Thorough Examinations pending qualifications.
• To identify additional chargeable repairs that can be quoted to the customer.

Onsite Customer Overhaul of Forklift Trucks

• Responsible for completing a partial or full strip-down of LPG, diesel or electric forklift trucks.

Onsite Customer Battery Maintenance

• Check voltages and gravities of traction batteries using meters and hydrometers.
• Complete a battery survey and report on it as required.
• Responsible for time entry, job reporting, parts requests, part number identification and customer sign off using a tablet.
• Liaising with the Service Manager and the Parts Controller as necessary.
• Any other reasonable duties related to this role.

Education/Qualifications

• City and Guilds or BTEC qualification in a related field of relevance to the Forklift industry, or similar qualification.
• Thorough Examination Qualifications.

Skills & Experience

• Experience in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering in heavy goods / plant machinery / automotive.
• Holds a valid UK driving licence.
• If relevant, to hold a valid permit to work in the UK.
• Able to work unsupervised as required.
• Numerate
• Literate
