Job summary

Acclaim Handling Ltd in the UK is seeking a Workshop Engineer at our Purfleet depot to service and repair forklift trucks at customer sites, working from a home base attached to a depot.

The role involves electrical and mechanical repair, servicing LPG, diesel and electric forklifts, conducting thorough examinations when qualified, and quoting customers in close collaboration with the service team; you should have relevant City & Guilds/BTEC qualifications and a valid UK driving licence.

Qualifications

• Experience in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering in heavy goods / plant machinery / automotive.
• Holds a valid UK driving licence and permits to work if relevant.
• Able to work unsupervised as required; numerate and literate.
• Thorough Examinations qualifications provide an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Onsite repairs of forklift trucks: electrical, mechanical and hydraulic components.
• Service LPG, diesel and electric forklifts and perform preventative maintenance.
• Inspect equipment, provide quotes, and identify additional chargeable repairs.
• Carry out battery maintenance and sign off jobs via tablet.
• Liaise with Service Manager and Parts Controller as needed.

A position has arisen at our Purfleet depot as a Workshop Engineer working 40 hours per week.

Position Description:

Hours of Work:

Monday to Friday 08:00 to 16:30

40 hours per week

Location:

Working from home base but attached to a relevant Acclaim Handling Ltd depot.

Summary of Job:

Working with the Service Manager and liaising with the Service Controllers to service and repair forklift trucks at customers sites.

Position Requirements:

Onsite Customer Forklift Trucks Repairs

Repair of electrical, mechanical and hydraulic components.

Repairing hydraulic valves and rams.

Repairing final drive and gearbox components.

Repairing engines and components.

Inspecting and providing quotes to customers regarding repairs, in close liaison with the Service Manager.

To identify additional chargeable repairs that can be quoted to the customer.

Onsite Customer Forklift Truck Servicing

Responsible for servicing LPG, diesel and electric powered forklift trucks to a high standard, and with a view to preventative maintenance.

Using a check sheet ensure the equipment is fully functional, and conforms to current legislation.

Changing the oil, filters, etc as necessary.

To carry out Thorough Examinations pending qualifications.

To identify additional chargeable repairs that can be quoted to the customer.

Onsite Customer Overhaul of Forklift Trucks

Responsible for completing a partial or full strip-down of LPG, diesel or electric forklift trucks.

Onsite Customer Battery Maintenance

Check voltages and gravities of traction batteries using meters and hydrometers.

Complete a battery survey and report on it as required.

Responsible for time entry, job reporting, parts requests, part number identification and customer sign off using a tablet.

Liaising with the Service Manager and the Parts Controller as necessary.

Any other reasonable duties related to this role.

Education/Qualifications:

City and Guilds or BTEC qualification in a related field of relevance to the Forklift industry, or similar qualification.

Thorough Examination Qualifications.

Skills & Experience:

Holds a valid UK driving licence.

If relevant, to hold a valid permit to work in the UK.
