Job Purpose/Objectives of a Mobile Crane Operator

To provide a high-quality lifting service to our customers, ensuring safety of employees, customers, and the public.

Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities of a Mobile Crane Operator

  • Work according to manufacturer’s instructions at all times.
  • Adhere to road traffic regulations.
  • Ensure PPE is worn at all appropriate times.
  • Be conversant with the correct use of outriggers and ensure they are used on level ground.
  • Set and check the functioning of the rated capacity limiter and indicator.
  • Perform correct manual handling, e.g., Outrigger Pans.
  • Liaise with Site Manager/Project Manager upon arrival on site.
  • Resist pressures to carry out unsafe operations.
  • Understand and apply information from reports and duty charts regarding crane operation and safety.
  • Be aware of wind and climatic effects on the crane and load.
  • Take action to avoid dangerous situations, including stopping operations if necessary.
  • Access and depart the crane safely using ladders and grab rails.
  • Participate in training on specific crane models, rigging, and maintenance procedures; familiarize with all crane documentation.
  • Continuously seek improvements in operational procedures to meet business objectives.

Person Specification

Education/Knowledge/Experience for a Mobile Crane Operator

  • Full Driver's Licence
  • HGV Class C Licence
  • In-date Blue CPCS card with Mobile Crane Operator authorization
  • Previous experience operating mobile cranes
  • Knowledge of wind and climatic effects on cranes and loads
  • Strong knowledge of road traffic regulations
