Job summary

Equans UK & Ireland is seeking a Mobile Combustion Engineer to cover the Midlands on a permanent basis. The role is full-time (40 hours/week) with a company vehicle and benefits. You will work across Birmingham and surrounding areas, performing maintenance on commercial and domestic gas boilers and related equipment.

The position requires CCN1 and COCN1, CPA1, and other gas safety certifications, plus a full driving license. On-call duties apply and a DBS Enhanced check is required.

Qualifications

• Qualified gas engineer with domestic and commercial experience.
• Mandatory safety certifications (CCN1, COCN1, CPA1) and related gas qualifications.
• Full UK driving license required and DBS check per policy.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and service commercial and domestic boilers and related gas equipment across sites.
• Complete PPM, reactive and breakdown tasks and log in CAFM system promptly.
• Document maintenance work with start/wait/stop times and submit follow-on actions.
• Record plant failures and inform line manager; participate in on-call rota.
• Update customers and internal systems with accurate job details.

Job description

Equans is looking for a Mobile Combustion Engineer to join our team working across the Midlands on a permanent basis. This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary, company vehicle and benefits package.

The role is working on our Midlands Mobile contract. The majority of the work will be based in the West Midlands covering Birmingham and Stoke-on-Trent but it will also cover other parts of the Midlands.

What will you deliver?

• Working on the following equipment but not limited to: Commercial Boilers, Associated Gas Equipment, Gas Fire Radiant Heaters, Water Heaters, Control valves, D omestic Boilers

• Cover numerous sites that fall within the contract such as Stoke Schools and Guide Dogs

• Ensure that all relevant paperwork is completed regarding PPM, reactive and breakdown works and that it is passed without delay to the contract administrator

• Complete supplementary documentation / E-Forms relating to the maintenance task as dictated by your line manager

• Update customers CAFM system in real time with start/wait/stop completion times and provide full description of works undertaken, advising of any follow‑on works required

• Ensure reactive tasks throughout the sites are completed and be proactive in highlighting areas where improvements can be made. Identify and record all plant failures using quotation forms and issue to line manager. This is to be indicated and recorded within the CAFM system

• Take part in the on call rota

Who are you?

• A recognised industry qualification will be required, and previous experience is essential
• CCN1: Core Domestic Gas Safety (mandatory for domestic work)
• COCN1: Core Commercial Gas Safety (mandatory for commercial work)
• CPA1: Combustion Performance Analysis (often bundled with core) [1,2]
• Domestic (Natural Gas): CENWAT (boilers)
• Commercial/Industrial: Includes CODNCO1 (domestic to commercial switch)
• CIGA1/CDGA1: (commercial appliances), and pipework certifications like ICPN1
• BMP1: Gas boosters Medium pressure
• CCP1: Commission of commercial plant
• CDGA1: Commission, Service Direct Fired Heaters
• C&G Level 3 Plumbing
• Trade qualified Combustion Engineer with appropriate post apprenticeship experience desirable
• Commercial & Domestic Boiler experience
• Must have a full drivers’ licence

This role includes a DBS Enhanced with Barred Lists check therefore ability to pass is essential.
