Job summary

Trainline in London is seeking an experienced MLOps Engineering Manager to build and lead a new team of engineers. You will shape deployment, observability, and scalable machine learning systems across the platform.

You will collaborate with ML Engineers, Data Engineers, Software Engineers, Data Scientists, Product Managers and stakeholders to deliver production-ready models and AI services that drive business value. The role adopts a hybrid work model.

Qualifications

• Experience leading, managing or mentoring engineers, with a thoughtful and inclusive approach to developing people, building teams and supporting delivery.
• Strong experience productionising machine learning models at scale, ideally across batch and online use cases such as recommendation systems, classification models, regression models or AI agents.
• A good understanding of the ML development lifecycle: data extraction, feature engineering, modelling, evaluation, deployment and monitoring.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS, alongside DevOps tools like Docker, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code.
• Familiarity with MLOps tools such as MLflow, Airflow, model monitoring, API monitoring, data validation, data drift detection, autoscaling and access management.
• Strong Python experience, with knowledge of Spark or PySpark for large-scale data and ML systems.
• Understanding of feature stores and related data technologies supporting ML products.
• Clear communication skills to work effectively across engineering, data, product and business teams.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead a new team of MLOps Engineers, delivering meaningful outcomes for customers and the business.
• Define and evolve MLOps processes, tooling and infrastructure across the tech department.
• Own deployment and operation of ML products, ensuring production-readiness and observability.
• Collaborate with engineering, data science, product and data teams to uphold engineering standards in ML delivery.
• Support productionisation of batch and online models, including recommender systems and large language models.
• Promote experimentation, testing, monitoring and evidence-based decisions.
• Contribute to Trainline’s AI/ML community, sharing knowledge and best practices.
• Guide technology choices across cloud, CI/CD, monitoring and MLOps tooling for long-term value.
