Job summary

Avanc, a Bristol-based deep-tech startup, is hiring its first ML Engineer to own the classification system powering real-time biosensing alerts. You will work with the CTO and R&D scientist on model development, training, and deployment across our hardware-linked data pipeline.

Bring 2+ years in ML engineering, with Python-based stacks (NumPy/SciPy/scikit-learn/PyTorch). Hybrid work in Bristol, with some lab visits and equity discussion opportunities.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of applied machine learning engineering experience.
• Background in bioinformatics, chemometrics or sensor data software is a plus.
• Familiarity with 1D signal or spectra data processing or willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Own the classification system at the heart of the platform.
• Convert raw spectral processing to actionable user alerts.
• Train and validate models on small, noisy datasets linked to hardware.
• Contribute to product roadmap for library scaling and deployment.
• Design validation with per-class reporting and ROC analysis.
