Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a senior software engineer with extensive DO-178B/C experience to oversee lifecycle data, architecture, and documentation for certification in aerospace systems. The role requires collaboration with regulatory bodies and global teams to ensure compliance and timely delivery.

Ideal candidates will have 12+ years in software development life cycles, embedded software focus, and strong leadership in agile environments, with DO-178B/C, DO-330/331 knowledge and security clearance

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in engineering, CS, or related field.
• Ability to obtain security clearance.
• 10+ years in RTCA DO-178B/C software considerations with emphasis on embedded software.
• 12+ years in software development life cycles and agile practices.
• Experience with DO-330/DO-331 and software lifecycle data items.

Responsibilities

• Review and approve suppliers’ software lifecycle data throughout software lifecycle processes; from planning, requirements, development/implementation, verification and certification phases.
• Generate Software Components (PDIs), User Modifiable Software (UMS) and/or Field Loadable software in response to modifications requested at aircraft level in compliance with DO-178B/C.
• Oversee and verify the compliance preparation and submission of comprehensive technical documentation required for certification.
• Work collaboratively with regulatory representatives, Boeing EUMs suppliers and global Boeing sites to ensure systems and software designs comply with regulatory requirements and internal standards.
• Monitor project progress and ensure engineering solutions are delivered on time and meet safety and certification milestones.
• Lead activities to develop, document and maintain architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software systems.
• Lead development, selection, tailoring and deployment of processes, tools and metrics.
• Participate in industry working groups to develop industry guidance and standards and author internal design practice documentation and standards.

Job description

• Generate Software Components (PDIs), User Modifiable Software (UMS) and/or Field Loadable software in response to modifications requested at aircraft level in compliance with DO-178B/C

Core Competencies

Demonstrates extensive experience in software lifecycle processes, including compliance with DO-178B/C standards, and possesses strong capabilities in leading software development projects and managing technical documentation for certification. Proficient in agile software engineering practices and familiar with industry-specific domains such as Interior Cabins and In Flight Entertainment systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree or higher from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
• Ability to obtain security clearance
• 5+ years of experience as, or working with Designated Engineering Representative (DER), or Technical Standard Order (TSO) Certification Specialist or EASA/FAA Compliance Verification Engineer (CVE) or equivalent
• 10+ years of Experience in RTCA DO-178(B/C/D) Software Considerations in Airborne Systems and Equipment Certification, with emphasis on Embedded Software
• 5+ years of Experience across Software Lifecycle Data Items, and Software standards such DO-330 and DO-331
• Commercial Current Designated Engineering Representative (DER) or Technical Standard Order (TSO) Certification Specialist or Compliance Verification Engineer (CVE)
• 12+ years’ experience in software development life cycles, configuration management and agile software engineering best practices
• 10+ years’ experience developing, documenting and maintaining architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software systems
• 10+ years’ experience leading software development projects
• Experience with Agile planning tool such as JIRA, GITLAB, or simillar
• Domain expertise in either Interior Cabins, Seats, In Flight Entertainment systems or Onboard Network Systems
• Defence C/C++ or Java HMI Experience (preferred)
• SW design experience for Near-real time SW OS / driver integration experience desired
• Experience in AEWC SW design templates desired
• Comfortable working in LINUX / other unix’sExperience in failsafe design technics
• Experience with requirements and requirement breakdown
• Testing experience – desired
