Job summary

The Avenue School is seeking a reliable Minibus Driver to transport pupils with additional needs to and from school, visits and activities. You will drive the school minibus safely, perform safety checks and keep accurate mileage records, ensuring pupils are seated and secured.

This role requires a clear driving licence and completion of MiDAS, with enhanced DBS checks and pre-employment screening. You will work alongside teachers and assistants in a patient, caring manner, following

Job description

Minibus Driver post at The Avenue School, a specialist SEND school, transporting pupils with additional needs and disabilities to school, visits and activities. The core of the work is driving the school minibus safely, checking the vehicle, keeping mileage and journey records, and ensuring pupils are seated and secured properly. The driver works alongside teachers and passenger assistants, so the role suits someone patient and caring as well as a careful driver. A clear driving licence and completion of MiDAS are needed, and visa sponsorship is not available.

What the job involves

• Drive the school minibus safely and responsibly in line with road traffic law and school procedures
• Transport pupils to and from school, educational visits, appointments and activities
• Carry out vehicle safety checks and report defects or concerns
• Make sure pupils are seated safely and that seat belts and specialist safety equipment are used correctly
• Support pupils with patience, understanding and respect throughout journeys
• Keep a calm, reassuring environment for pupils with physical, sensory, communication, behavioural or medical needs
• Follow safeguarding, health and safety and emergency procedures
• Keep accurate mileage, journey and vehicle records
• Work positively with teachers, teaching assistants, passenger assistants and other school staff
