Job summary

Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust is seeking an experienced midwife to join the Maternity Triage team. The role involves being the first point of contact for women entering the unit and triage, with opportunities to transfer skills to the triage area and occasional redeployment to the delivery suite.

The Trust has level 2 Baby Friendly accreditation and a strong focus on education and professional development in-house, with links to local universities for post-registration training.

Qualifications

• Experienced midwife with ability to work autonomously.
• Comfortable assessing situations and advising or referring to the correct department.

Responsibilities

• Be the first point of contact for women entering the unit via triage.
• Transfer existing midwifery skills to the maternity triage unit and be redeployed occasionally to the delivery suite.
• Act as the triage team’s primary point of contact for callers and patients within maternity services.
• Support staff development with in-house training and collaborate with local universities on post-registration programs.

If so, we are looking for an experienced Midwife to complement our existing team of Hospital Based Triage Midwives.

Our Triage department is the first point of call for all women coming or calling into the unit.

We are looking for a dynamic, inspirational midwife to transfer their existing skills and interests to our unit. Midwives that join our triage team are based in triage but may be required to be redeployed very occasionally to the delivery suite.

We have level 2 Baby friendly accreditation and rated “GOOD” at the last CQC inspection in July 2021.

As a trust, we care for approximately 6000 births every year and cover a very diverse population. This is an exciting opportunity for midwives, who are passionate about making a difference to join our team of highly skilled midwives in maternity.

We want to help you develop and enhance your skills and maximise your potential in all aspects of midwifery. We actively encourage staff development and have a fantastic clinical education team to provide our in house, multidisciplinary professional development training. We have excellent links with local universities for post registration development.

Our maternity unit includes a Consultant Led Obstetric Unit – consisting of high risk labour and birth rooms (including one fixed birth pool room), High Dependency Care beds, 2 obstetric theatres and recovery areas, bereavement suite and maternity triage area.

Our newly opened Induction of Labour suite caters for all women attending for inpatient induction of labour and includes facilities for complementary therapies including reflexology.

We also have a 21 bedded postnatal ward and 14 bedded antenatal / transitional care ward.

The Serenity Midwife Led Unit, our award winning alongside birth centre, has five birth rooms and a dedicated assessment area to support 1200 births per year.
