Job Summary

We are seeking enthusiastic, compassionate midwives to join our maternity service. This advert is specifically for Band 6 Midwives who are post preceptorship and have clinical experience. Recruitment for this post will involve a two-phase interview process to select the most suitable candidate.

Band 6 Midwives

You’ll work autonomously across Delivery Suite, Antenatal, Triage, and Postnatal Wards, delivering safe, holistic, evidence-based care. You’ll role model best practice, support junior colleagues, and promote high standards across our service. You’ll also have access to a dedicated retention midwife to support your ongoing development. You’ll join an approachable team that values personalised care, teamwork, and growth. Our commitment was reflected in our recent CQC inspection, where maternity services were rated Good.

Main Duties

As a dedicated midwife, your main duties will revolve around providing safe, clinically effective and individualised care to women and birthing people throughout their pregnancy journey. Working collaboratively as part of a dynamic team, you will be involved in all areas of the maternity services. By staying up to date with advancements in midwifery care and embracing evidence-based practices, you will contribute to the continuous improvements of our services. Your dedication to providing compassionate care and your commitment to ongoing professional development will make a significant impact on the lives of the families within the Worcestershire area.

Pay scheme: Agenda for change. Band 6. Salary: £38,682 to £46,580 a year NHS Pay Band 6 (2025/2026). Contract: Permanent. Working pattern: Full‑time, Part‑time.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Ability to undertake manual handling and movement tasks
  • Professional appearance in line with trust uniform policy
  • Knowledge and practical experience across a broad range of maternity services, including your midwifery experience within a UK maternity setting.
  • Experience of mentoring junior colleagues/students
  • Experience of leading or coordinating a shift within a ward area, ensuring patient flow and team oversight
  • Flexibility, reliability, and adaptability, including the ability to work nights and weekends to support a 24/7 maternity service
  • Strong organisational and time management skills to achieve results while working collaboratively with others
  • As a midwife, ensure practice is guided by current evidence-based practice and the importance of this
  • Competent in Venepuncture & Cannulation
  • Competent in IV Therapy
  • Competent in Perineal Suturing
  • BSc (Hons) Midwifery or equivalent qualification
  • UK NMC registration as a Midwife
  • Completion of practice supervisor or assessor training

Desirable

  • Valid driving license or ability to travel between sites if required
  • Willingness to undertake secondments or extended roles
  • Experience in service development or clinical governance projects
  • Leadership potential and ability to influence positive change in practice
  • Familiarity with maternity‑specific IT systems (e.g., BadgerNet)
  • NIPE Training
  • Advanced training or certification in specialist areas
