Job summary

Medialake is seeking a Mid-Level Backend Engineer to join our growing team in London. You will own substantial portions of the backend, primarily using Laravel, and collaborate with frontend engineers to deliver reliable, scalable APIs.

Reporting to the CTO, you’ll contribute to architecture discussions, code reviews, and automated tests with PHPUnit. This role offers hybrid working and opportunities to push production-ready code in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial setting.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of professional backend experience.
• Solid proficiency with PHP and the Laravel framework.
• Proven track record designing, building, and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Experience writing automated unit and integration tests (PHPUnit).
• Proficient with Git workflows and CI/CD deployment pipelines.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL) and query optimization.

Responsibilities

• Backend Development: Design, build, and maintain scalable SaaS backend apps using Laravel.
• API Architecture: Build robust RESTful APIs and integrate third-party services.
• Testing & QA: Write automated tests using PHPUnit to ensure quality.
• System Ownership: Participate in code reviews, optimize queries, and provide on-call support.
• Collaboration: Work with senior engineers, mentor juniors, and ensure frontend-backend integration.
