Microbiology Shift Manager, Pharmaceutical

Type: Permanent

Location: Runcorn

Hours: Monday - Friday 7.00am - 3.00pm and 3.00pm - 11.00pm

Salary: Negotiable - typically £38,000 - £45,000 plus £4,581 shift allowance (depending on experience) plus Bonus

Our client, a global leading pharmaceutical company, is seeking a Microbiology Shift Manager (MSM) to lead a team of five microbiologists. The company offers a competitive remuneration package, a state-of-the-art facility in a central location, and opportunities for career progression.

About the Role:

As a Microbiology Laboratory Manager, you will oversee laboratory operations, ensure compliance, and drive continuous improvement.

Your responsibilities will include:
  1. Recruiting, organizing, and managing laboratory personnel
  2. Ensuring monitoring processes are accurate, current, and compliant
  3. Writing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  4. Overseeing sample collection and processing to maintain cleanroom controls
  5. Reporting out-of-limit (OOL) or out-of-specification (OOS) results immediately
  6. Leading investigations for deviations and environmental excursions
  7. Coordinating laboratory activities such as growth promotion testing, environmental monitoring, sample reconciliation, and investigations
  8. Identifying isolates to species level
  9. Managing and mentoring the team in sterility assurance and best practices
  10. Ensuring full compliance with regulatory standards and internal policies
About You:

To succeed in this role, you should have:

  1. A degree in a relevant scientific discipline
  2. Extensive knowledge of GMP in a microbiology laboratory
  3. Proven leadership experience
  4. Strong communication skills for cross-team collaboration
  5. Experience in writing SOPs
