Job summary

Zoetis' Leeds-based VPG unit is seeking a Laboratory Technician (Microbiologist) to join a fast-paced microbiology laboratory. You will support day-to-day scientific activities, process samples, culture specimens and help maintain quality standards.

The role emphasizes accurate data entry using LIMS, adherence to SOPs, and collaboration with colleagues. Ideal candidate holds a scientific degree or has 2 years lab experience, with strong attention to detail and good communication.

Qualifications

• Relevant scientific degree or 2 years' laboratory experience.
• Practical understanding of microbiology and laboratory testing principles.
• Ability to plan, prioritise and manage workload effectively.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Experience with Word, Excel and PowerPoint; ideally LIMS.

Responsibilities

• Perform microbiology laboratory activities in accordance with SOPs, H&S requirements and local practices.
• Prepare clinical samples for routine investigations and work independently to agreed protocols.
• Culture clinical samples using appropriate media and perform basic identification of bacteria.
• Enter and retrieve laboratory data accurately using LIMS and other authorised systems.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, records and quality assurance documentation.
• Support training of Laboratory Assistants in relevant techniques and procedures.
• Plan and prioritise workload to respond to routine and urgent requests.
