Job summary

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant in Microbiology at Royal Derby Hospital. The role is full-time, with weekend/bank holiday work expected, and supports Biomedical Scientists across specimen processing and data entry.

You will handle blood, urine, tissues and other bodily fluids, perform preparation and processing, keep accurate records, and help maintain equipment and waste disposal, contributing to a busy pathology service.

Qualifications

• Strong numeracy and literacy; good command of verbal and written English.
• Interest in science with attention to detail and data entry skills.
• Ability to multi-task and work flexibly in a laboratory setting.

Responsibilities

• Support Biomedical Scientists by processing and preparing samples.
• Sort, prepare, process and handle blood, urine, tissue and bodily fluids.
• Enter patient/specimen data into the laboratory computer system.
• Perform housekeeping, equipment maintenance and safe disposal of clinical waste.
