Job summary

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals are seeking a Band 2 Medical Laboratory Assistant in Microbiology, based at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals. The role is full-time, 37.5 hours per week, rostered Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays.

You will work in a UKAS accredited lab, supporting specimen processing and reporting results to aid patient care. Training is provided for all areas; the environment is fast-paced with tight turnaround times.

Qualifications

• Educated to GCSE standard, or equivalent.
• NVQ2 Clinical Support.
• ECDL or equivalent IT qualification.

Responsibilities

• Receive, label, book in and prepare clinical samples per SOPs.
• Participate in quality control and assurance procedures.
• Ensure safe disposal of waste and sharps per protocols.
• Monitor temperatures in fridges/incubators at start of day.
• Maintain accurate data entry using laboratory information systems.
• Assist Biomedical Scientists in identifying infectious organisms and advising on care.
