Job summary

Stark Group is recruiting a Meter Data Technician to visit customer sites, perform half-hourly meter reads and annual safety checks using the SMR software. You will drive a Stark vehicle, complete weekly vehicle checks, and log readings daily while delivering courteous customer service.

The role emphasizes independent work, safety, and accuracy, with full training and a strong emphasis on health and safety compliance. Training will cover all required certifications and equipment handling.

Qualifications

• Experience in customer-facing field roles is beneficial but training is provided.
• Mandatory DBS certification and health & safety training.
• Full UK driving licence held for at least 1 year.

Responsibilities

• Visit commercial sites to perform electric meter readings and safety checks.
• Record meter data accurately and report back to line manager daily.
• Maintain vehicle, follow safety procedures, and liaise with site staff.

Looking for a role that gets you out on the road instead of behind a desk?

We're looking for a Meter Data Technician (Meter reader, Data collector) to join the team at Stark. This is a fantastic opportunity to work independently, travel to a variety of customer sites, and become part of a business that genuinely values its people.

No two days are the same. You'll spend your time visiting commercial customer sites, carrying out electric meter readings and annual meter safety checks while providing excellent customer service.

Previous experience as a Meter Reader, Field Technician, Utilities Operative, Service Technician, Smart Meter Support, Postal Worker, Delivery Driver or another customer-facing field-based role would be advantageous but not essential as full training will be provided.

Purpose

To efficiently take downloads from half hourly electric meters, whilst providing courteous service to

customers. To efficiently carry out annual safety checks on electric meters.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities

• Undertake weekly check on Stark vehicle, including water, oil, tyre pressures etc. Report vehicle issues immediately.
• Drive to site in a safe and professional manner and make every reasonable effort to find
• correct site.
• Park appropriately and ensure Stark vehicle and any contents within is locked and secure.
• Gain access to site.
• Liaise with onsite Reception/Security personnel. Quickly build good rapport, greeting and dealing with them in a professional and courteous manner.
• Always display Stark identification badge and follow any onsite induction/security procedures.
• Locate electric meter on site. Make every reasonable effort to locate meter.
• In the event you cannot gain access to site or locate the correct meter record any unreadable downloads / safety checks on the system.
• Carefully check the Meter Point Asset No (MPAN) and Meter Serial Number to ensure you have located the correct meter.
• Meter Checks Once correct meter located, carry out the 5 checks required and record on to the spreadsheet provided along with date and meter read.
• Return completed spreadsheet of meters checks to line manager daily.
• Half hourly Downloads Once correct meter located, place optical probe onto front of meter.
• Bring up SMR software, select job, press enter.
• Promptly record successful download.
• Write up notes on system to record any difficult aspects in gaining access/locating meter or other site issues which will assist Stark personnel in future site visits.
• Notify onsite Reception/Security of departure including signing out as necessary.

General:

• Ensure the safe keeping of issued equipment.
• Promptly respond to scheduling enquiries and maintain frequent contact with Head Office.
• Abide by customer’s and Stark’s health and safety and security procedures.
• Participate in regular training/ learning activities to maintain and develop skills and knowledge.
• Adhere to all Stark policies, procedures and working practices including all health and safety requirements.
• Ensure the health and safety of yourself and others who may be affected by what you do; use work equipment provided safely and cooperate with managers to provide safe systems of work.
• Any other reasonable duties as required.

• Keep up to date with changes to legislation and applicable codes of practice.
• Successfully complete full Stark induction and training programme and undertake refresher training as necessary.

Other essential requirements

Must have the following

• Reasonable level of physical fitness and manual dexterity to undertake regular manual handling.
• Full UK driving licence (held for 1 year minimum) and produce all driver documentation whenever required.
• Must immediately report to line manager any health or medical conditions which could affect ability to drive and/or do the job & any driving accidents, points on driving licence, prosecutions or loss of driving licence
• Be able to drive frequently, on long distances and travel out of region as necessary including occasional overnight stays.
• Prepared to work in all weathers, and in sometimes difficult or dirty conditions.
