Job description

Be the first Merchandiser at a fast-growing name in homeware

THE COMPANY

A growing name in online homeware with big ambitions and a brand-new role. They’re expanding and looking for their first Merchandiser / Merchandise Planner to bring clarity and commercial insight to the numbers behind the product. With investment in new systems and data-led decision-making, this is an opportunity to shape the role from day one and make a real impact as the business grows.

THE ROLE

As the first Merchandise Planner, you’ll collaborate closely with the Buyer and contribute to strategic decision-making, helping to make smarter buying decisions, identify trends, flag risks, and support successful products. This role focuses on strategy, range architecture, pricing, and delivering weekly, monthly, and seasonal reports that are insights-driven and actionable. It’s a true partnership where your commercial input will be highly valued.

  • Shape the merchandising strategy, focusing on range architecture, pricing, customer segmentation, and category planning.
  • Monitor weekly trading and recommend rebuys or markdowns.
  • Analyze performance by product, price point, supplier, and margin to support trading and strategic planning.
  • Partner with the Buyer to manage option counts and product mix each season.
  • Collaborate with Buying, Marketing, Supply Chain, and Finance to ensure plans are aligned and executed effectively.
  • Help develop and improve planning processes and reporting.
  • Contribute to long-term planning, with potential to build and lead a merchandising team in the future.
ABOUT YOU

You’ll be the first Merchandiser in the team, so confidence and self-direction are essential — someone comfortable working independently in a small business environment. You should be proficient with numbers and skilled at interpreting data to generate clear, commercial actions. Bonus points if you’ve previously been the first merch in a business, led process changes, or introduced new tools.

THE REWARD

This is a newly created role offering the freedom to shape merchandising practices. You’ll join a growing business where your ideas are valued, and your input has a real influence from day one. It’s a strategic partnership — not just executing plans but helping to develop them. Plus, you’ll be part of a brand you’ll be proud to help grow.

Salary: Depending on experience — open to discussion as this is a new role.
