Job Description

A successful and established main MEP contractor based in the Newcastle area, with a strong project workload across the North East / Yorkshire regions, requires a MEP Technical Manager to work with clients, main contractors, and external consultants.

Job Overview

The Technical Manager is responsible for managing design-related issues across multiple sectors during both Pre-Construction and Construction stages of projects. The role involves managing the design process with a focus on commercial, contractual, programme/time awareness, and technical expertise, while supporting and advising stakeholders on design development and obligations.

The role requires experience in appointing and managing consultants, monitoring detailed design production, and managing the design review process during project delivery. The Technical Manager ensures the design process complies with current legislation, standards, and codes of practice where appropriate.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Document Management System (DMS): Complete contract documents checklists, onboard consultants, ensure stakeholder training, review designs/specifications/RFIs, and manage timely drawing reviews.
• Document Control: Coordinate with Document Controllers to set up projects, QA check designs, and upload documents timely.
• Pre-Construction: Attend tender handover meetings, review Employer's Requirements, assess consultant designs, identify risks, scope gaps, cost-saving opportunities, and potential programme impacts, and assist in preparing risk registers and tender documents.
• Project Delivery: Manage consultants and subcontractors, review contract documents, develop construction information schedules, oversee design against Employer's Requirements, facilitate communication, attend meetings, review quality and compliance, verify risk registers, and organize design workshops.
• Project Completion: Support Defects & Aftercare, and assist with lessons learned reviews.
