Job summary

AtkinsRéalis UK Limited is seeking an experienced MEP Quantity Surveyor to join our Cost Management team in Southampton. You will deliver comprehensive cost management across the full project lifecycle, advising on MEP cost drivers and procurement strategies while building strong client relationships.

You will contribute to high-profile projects across infrastructure, education, healthcare, aviation and retail, with opportunities for leadership within the Southampton M&E group.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying or related discipline.
• Working towards MRICS Chartership.
• Experience delivering pre- and post-contract MEP quantity surveying services.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems and their cost impact.
• Experience across infrastructure, commercial, residential, healthcare, aviation, or education.
• Understanding procurement strategies and contract administration.
• Ability to advise on project costs, value engineering, and risks.
• Experience coordinating with clients, consultants, and contractors.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Deliver pre- and post-contract MEP cost management services across a diverse project portfolio.
• Prepare cost estimates, feasibility studies, cost plans, and budgets.
• Monitor project costs and implement cost-control measures to keep projects within budget.
• Lead contract administration activities, including tendering, evaluation and variations.
• Provide cost monitoring, forecasting and financial reporting to project stakeholders.

Your role

As an MEP Quantity Surveyor, you will provide expert cost management services across the full project lifecycle, supporting successful project delivery while building strong client relationships.

Key responsibilities

• Delivering pre- and post-contract MEP cost management services across a diverse project portfolio.
• Preparing cost estimates, feasibility studies, cost plans, and budgets.
• Monitoring project costs and implementing cost control measures to ensure projects remain within budget.
• Leading contract administration activities, including tender preparation, evaluation, and management of variations.
• Providing cost monitoring, forecasting, and financial reporting to project stakeholders.
• Advising clients on key MEP cost drivers, project costs, value engineering opportunities, and procurement strategies.
• Supporting business development initiatives and increasing client engagement across services and sectors.
• Contributing to the growth and development of the Southampton M&E team, with the opportunity to progress into a team leadership role.
• Providing technical guidance and specialist MEP cost advice to internal and external stakeholders.
• Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and project teams.

About you

• Essential BSc degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
• Working towards, or commitment to achieving, MRICS Chartership.
• Demonstrable experience delivering both pre- and post-contract MEP quantity surveying services.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems and their impact on overall construction costs.
• Experience across multiple sectors such as infrastructure, commercial, residential, healthcare, aviation, or education.
• Sound understanding of procurement strategies and contract administration.
• Ability to advise clients on project costs, value engineering, and commercial risks.
• Experience working directly with clients, consultants, and contractors.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under changing deadlines.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills.
• Proactive, enthusiastic, flexible, and ambitious, with the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
