Job summary

WSP in London is expanding its Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health (MEP) CAD team to deliver 3D/2D MEP designs for High Speed-2 stations and other rail projects.

The role involves modelling with Bentley MicroStation and OpenBuildings, ensuring clash-free designs and effective data exchange within a Common Data Environment, while mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

• Experience with Bentley MicroStation and OpenBuildings in MEP design.
• Understanding BIM and working within a Common Data Environment (CDE).
• Off-shore CAD/BIM coordination experience is valuable.
• Proficient with Microsoft Excel and VBA for macros.

Responsibilities

• Produce 3D/2D MEP design information for rail stations and networks.
• Coordinate design to ensure clash-free layouts with access and maintenance considerations.
• Support design data reviews; mentor and upskill junior staff.
• Ensure data exchange across multiple software platforms within a CDE.

Job Description

As part of the UK Stations Strategy it is the intention to grow our Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health (MEP) CAD team and we currently have some exciting opportunities within design team for quality hires to help us deliver our expanding portfolio of projects and clients. This role involves the production of 3D and 2D MEP design information for High Speed-2 Stations and Railway Systems, London Underground, Overground and Network Rail Station projects.

• Use of Bentley MicroStation and OpenBuildings to model 3D MEP services including but not limited to Cable Management Systems, Pipework, Ductwork etc. Production of 2D sections from 3D models for incorporation into drawings including the presentation of the design onto schematic and 2D layout drawings.
• Carrying out the CAD modelling to the appropriate level of detail, through all stages of development (Feasibility to detailed design and handback) to relevant industry standards.
• Complete design coordination with other design disciplines to ensure a clash free design with the appropriate access and maintenance requirements once installed.
• Working with the project team to ensure the design process maximises data exchange across multiple software platforms, managed through a Common Data Environment (CDE).
• Providing support to the engineering team in the review of the design data as required, mentoring and upskilling technical staff.

Qualifications and Experience

• Experience with multiple software platforms, including Bentley MicroStation, OpenBuildings and ProjectWise.
• Understanding of BIM and working within a Common Data Environment, preferably Bentley ProjectWise.
• Working with off-shore CAD and BIM resources would be a valuable strength.
• Good understanding of current and emerging software platforms, and industry peer group operations.
• A strong knowledge of Microsoft software applications, including writing macros to undertake complex or repetitive calculations and experience of VBA would be advantageous.
• HNC/HND (minimum) in Civil Engineering or equivalent experience working on Rail and civil engineering design projects, preferably at tender, concept and detailed design stages. Full knowledge of all design stages of a major new rail station project.
